This palm-filling meerschaum from AKB depicts the head of an eagle with a recently caught snake in its mouth for a predatory motif. As an aside, Homer's description of a high-flying bird carrying a snake in its talons was an omen the Trojans saw as they attacked the Greek forces. Also, the coat of arms of Mexico depicts a Mexican (golden) eagle perched on a cactus devouring a rattlesnake. In this detailed carving, the raptor has its sharp beak enclosed firmly around the snake as it curls downward toward the heel for a stunning, predator-vs.-prey enactment.
