Dunhill's 08 shape comes in both round-shanked versions and ones displaying the more common diamond-in-cross-section variant. This pipe is the former, a Rhodesian offering a more sinuous profile, and is rendered in quite compact Group 2 dimensions. Light of weight and with a comfortably downturned tapered mouthpiece of vulcanite, this pipe is ready to tuck into a pocket or clench comfortably and will look good doing either, with a craggy Shell Briar finish and elegant silver band.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
