A fine Sitter, thanks to its flattened heel, this sturdy "22" Poker is rendered in robust Group 5 proportions, Dunhill's second-largest standard size designation. It maintains the utilitarian, classic appeal associated with The White Spot's pipes and boasts a capacious tobacco chamber in its stoic, cylindrical bowl. A low-set transition is followed by a stretch of round shank and crisp saddle stem, the lines and curves all fashioned with precision. This piece is wearing the rugged sandblast and rustic stain of the Cumberland series, fitted to the line's namesake stem of brindled vulcanite.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
