The highest Winslow grade before Private Collection, this "A" Dublin expresses Danish design style with its flowing lines and sweeping stance, though the shank diameter is more traditional than on many of Poul's designs. The grain, of course, is remarkable, highlighted by Poul's contrast stain and cascading down the flanks of the bowl in tight striations. The bowl displays a gradual flare from its softly rendered heel and erupts into a wide rim crowned in rugged, dimpled plateau with the innermost area of the rim left smooth and chamfered as a subtle, yet skillful accenting touch. The shank's slightly upturned and accented by broad band of sterling while the black saddle stem creates negative space that sends the eyes back to the stummel, where the real action is. It is pipes like this where you can readily see Poul's 50+ years of carving experience at work.
